Heritage a matter of opinion.

In my opinion today our awareness is our history. In time of economic crisis, we have to highlight the remains of our common past. It will make the difference, in a very competitive environment we can offer to our visitors the best beaches, the most secure holidays, and the best food offer but, we also should give to them, and I think that we must give it to them, a solid cultural view of our history, developed by professionals in the subject and enjoyable for all kind of people. The tourist that are interested in culture are from a higher economic level than others. I am convinced that this is the way to improve our touristic incomes, despite the fact that beaches and everything else are important too we must focus in the improvement of our infrastructure, restoring archaeological sites, enhancing the introduction of  new technologies in museums and advertising  on the media, as of our better fortress against the crisis. To sum up, culture is, in my opinion, our best treasure, we have to take care of it, we are gambling our future in it.

Sailing the sea

When I was on my very first excavations we found the remains of an ancient vessel, the anchor, some pottery. And let me tell you something, for me, it was unbelievable. When you are studying  something  hard and you have the opportunity to know it at first hand, to touch it, it let me speechless.

Working in the field.

For the Phoenicians there was the sea, they were a sailors-based civilization. The best Phoenician´s achievement was the sailing technologies improvements. Based in the long tradition of the eastern Mediterranean sea, they developed very important artifacts that allowed them to cross the sea faster than ever.

Phoenician trade class vessel.

Innovations like the double-bladed rudder, the caulked hulls and the breakwater for military purposes.

This is the most probably look of a phoenician trader.

A glimpse of the ancient´s life

Hi everyone, I am an archaeologist and I am interested in  highlighting and promoting our awareness. Now,  I am going to explain a story, an awesome one, in wich I am a witness. I will try to explain how I am feeling about learning our history. As you know, who were are right know is what we were once. It is so exciting for me to start this, because in my point of view it is a stunning experience and an awesome travel to our past. So, lets start my Story,  this is an ancient one, and it is about how a culture could change when is mixed with another. Our plot starts in the middle east coast, the year is surrounding the  1st millennium b.C. There was a civilization who lived by the sea getting rich because of trade, and you could call them Phoenicians (although they called themselves caananeans).

Cedars the most common tree of Lebanon and the soul of the Phoenician ships.

At the beginning of the first millennium our people was under the Asirian Empire, and as all the empires before and after they wanted taxes, so they had to go to trade to far away lands to get the money. My aim is to explain how important is history in our developement, specially in the touristic one, our past is our treasure, and in a context of a changing landscape we have to look to our past, try to keep it and show it to the wider audience that we could get.
